Walnut Street Theatre

Background

The Walnut Street Theatre, founded in 1809, is America’s oldest theatre. It is also the Official State Theatre of Pennsylvania, and a National Historic Landmark. With more than 56,000 season ticket holders, the Walnut is also the most subscribed theatre company in the world! Over the last 20 years, a period of dramatic and successful development for the theatre, CEO Ed Satell has served as an active and constructive Walnut Board member.

What do President Thomas Jefferson, Bill Cosby, President Jimmy Carter and Groucho Marx have in common? They’ve all been to The Walnut!

Many noteworthy American actors of the 19th century and many from the 20th century have performed at the Walnut.

What We Do

We are the sole annual financial corporate sponsor for the spring musical production, consisting of approximately 64 performance, over eight weeks, for 80,000 people, for the past 10 years.  During these years, Progressive Business Publications sponsored shows have broken all Walnut attendance records.  Progressive Business Publications employees are proud to point out the Walnut banner affixed to poles and hung at bus stops throughout the city each spring and summer.  These shows have included Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, The Buddy Holly Story, The Producers, Carousel, West Side Story and Fiddler on the Roof.

Another highlight of the sponsorship is the much-anticipated cast party at Ed Satell’s home, a wonderful evening of food, camaraderie and entertainment.
