Cradle of Liberty Council

Background

Ed with two scouts as he accepted the Boy Scout Man of the Year Award.

The Boy Scouts of America – Cradle of Liberty Council serves more than 78,000 young people in the Philadelphia region teaching life skills.   Many are in schools challenged by poverty, safety issues, and poor academic achievement.  Among the largest youth-serving organizations in the state of Pennsylvania, the Council is led by over 5000 volunteers. Hundreds of community organizations join in partnership with Cradle of Liberty Council by chartering 600 Scouting units.

Scouts build lifetime friendships while learning leadership skills, active citizenship, personal fitness, and practical knowledge through their participation in a diverse array of activities including camping excursions, summer programs and much more.

In 2007, as Ed accepted the Man of the Year award, he spoke about the issues facing Scouting today, and the strong positive impact of Scouting on the region’s boys and teens.

What We Do

We issued the largest challenge grant in a five-year period, providing significant matching funds for new donations to support key Scouting programs.

The Challenge worked!  In 2012, Ed presented the Man of the Year to PA Governor Corbett and thanked all who participated in the challenge success.

“The  support from Ed & his company, Progressive Business Publications, allows us to continue to cultivate boys and girls into prepared and responsible leaders of tomorrow.”
